Another Leadership Feather – August 2018

John Jenkins:  Maine’s Most Elected & Electable Leader

On Monday, August 27, 2018, the Town of Owls Head will have a leadership choice for their community.  The candidate for the open seat of the three person select board, is a proven and effective citizen with unique leadership experience.

John Jenkins is a familiar name throughout Maine.  With more than forty (40) years of success as an inspirational seminar presenter/trainer, he has visited most high schools and communities throughout Maine.  John’s outstanding public service experience started with the Great City of Lewiston (description he often used while serving as Lewiston’s Mayor – 2 terms).  During his second term as Lewiston Mayor, he also served as the Maine State Senator representing the Lewiston district.

Years after his Lewiston service, John became a resident of Auburn.  Auburn citizens encouraged him to consider bringing his leadership experience to the office of Mayor.  Not being a career politician, John promised to become a candidate for Mayor with the intent of serving one-term.  He handedly won and exceeded the expectations of the populace.  True to his promise, he did not seek a second term for Mayor.  Concerned citizens noticed his name missing from the list of candidates for the next Mayoral election.  They approached John and asked: “how can we vote for you if your name is not on the ballot?”

His reply, “without my name on the ballot, perhaps you can’t vote for me in the upcoming election.”  An astute voter stated: “well, we will have to write-in your name so you can continue leading our city.  If we do that, would you serve?”  In a half joking manner, John said: “of course, but you must understand that this process is very difficult and no one in Maine history has been able to achieve this feat.”  The response from the people was: “never underestimate the power of the people once they are awakened.”

John received more votes as a write-in candidate than all balloted candidates combined.

After successfully serving 2 terms as Auburn’s Mayor, a second mayoral write-in initiative was about to be launched when, John asked that others be allowed to have an opportunity to serve to the best of their abilities.  “Any public office should not be perceived as belonging to one person or political party.  All offices and office holders belong to the people.”  Now, John Jenkins is on the precipice of achieving another political milestone as an elected official for the Town of Owls Head.

Because of his commitment to inspiring youth involvement in public service and the preservation of Maine’s maritime heritage, he was asked to submit his name for election in order to fill a vacated council seat due to the death of a long serving councilor.  With larger goals underway, John is also an Independent Write-in candidate to be Maine’s next Governor.  According to John: “At first, our gubernatorial write-in effort seemed like a long shot.  Now, our campaign continues to gain attention and support from voters who want a proven leadership choice.”  With success in either or both upcoming elections (Owls Head Town Councilor / Independent Write-in Governor of Maine), John is uniquely prepared to continue making a positive impact on Maine’s history.

John Jenkins has opened the John Jenkins Academy (wellness center) at 216 South Maine street in Rockland (2nd floor). He has served as: teacher, published author, small business owner, supporter of Veteran’s initiatives, world-class athlete, recipient of numerous  national/international awards.
